Blog:  Random Acts Of Kindness!  Write a letter to someone that made a difference in your life!
"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from  another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who  have lighted the flame within us." -Albert Schweitzer.

Has someone made a difference in your life? Maybe it’s a teacher or professor  who made a difference in your education; a coach who believed in you and  inspired you to do your best. Maybe that person is a grandparent who raised you  or a mentor who helped you choose your career path. Why not tell that person in  a letter or card how they have inspired you?

Benefits
Keeping in contact with those who have influenced you in a positive way is  also beneficial to you, because those people also represent a positive influence  in your life and will continue to help you become the person you strive to be.  Letting them know they have inspired you will move them continue helping others
as they helped you.

Step It Up
Write a letter to the people who have made a difference in your life. Tell  them about how they helped you get where you are, and why you are thankful for  their support.

Keep It Simple
Don’t have the time to write a letter? Simply send an e-mail to someone who’s  made a difference.

Blog:  Random Acts Of Kindness!   Let someone go in line in front of you!  With technology becoming more and more advanced, as a society we get used to  doing everything as quick as possible and getting everything we want
instantaneously. When we’re caught up in the face-paced world of today, we often  forget to stop to notice those around us. So next time you’re in a hurry in  public, slow down and go out of your way to be courteous to everyone around you.  When you’re standing in the checkout line, waiting to pay for your food at the  grocery store or waiting to order your drink at a coffee shop, offer to let the  person behind you go in front of you.

Benefits
This is a great way to practice patience, a virtue that will carry over into  all areas of your life. It’s also a simple way to make someone’s day memorable.  Would you forget the stranger who went out of his or her way to make your  day?

Step It Up
Make it a habit to offer someone your place in line or let them go in front  of you at least once a day. You’ll be surprised at how many opportunities arise  and at how practicing patience will impact your daily life.

Keep It Simple
Another way to practice patience and be generous to those in front of you in  line is to be gracious about waiting your turn. Don’t complain or think badly of  the person in front of you, even if they are taking a long time. Or when someone  cuts you in line, try not to dwell on it.

Blog:  Random Acts Of Kindness!  Visit an animal shelter!  There are many benefits to being around pets. In fact, researchers have found  that people who have pets are likely to live longer than those who don’t. One
reason for this might be because being around a pet can reduce stress in your  life, and even help  people combat depression.  Animals can also benefit from the human-animal relationship. Homeless or  abandoned animals that live in shelters often have trouble coping because they  are lonely. Even if you don’t have the means to adopt a pet, you can still  comfort an animal at a shelter, while relaxing and reviving yourself from the
stress in your own life.
Benefits
Like all nonprofit organizations, animal shelters greatly depend on help from  volunteers to be able to operate. Without volunteers, animal shelters wouldn’t  be able to do all the work they do, which might mean more animals would have to  be euthanized. Even just an hour a month will make a difference.
Step It Up
Add visiting your local animal shelter to your weekly to-do list. Volunteer  to walk or play with dogs, help cleaning cages and feeding the animals, or  provide fundraising or administrative support.
Keep It Simple
Take a day to visit an animal shelter in your community. Make some new  friends –four-legged and two-legged– by bringing treats for the animals and the  staff.   (taken from: randomactsofkindness.org)

  • Blog:  Random Acts Of Kindness!  Use less plastic!  Plastic is so commonly used in packaging food and beverages, it seems nearly  impossible to avoid it. But consider the effects it has on the environment, and
even our communities around the world.   Since plastic isn’t biodegradable, it often ends up in the ocean, or sits in  our landfills, where it releases toxic chemicals into our soil – the same soil  that is used to grow our food.

    Benefits
By cutting down on the amount of plastic we use on a daily basis, we’ll be  protecting our environment as well as our communities. It means less plastic  going into landfills and less pollution in the oceans. Since the materials used  to make plastic come from petroleum and natural gas, using less plastic also  means wasting less of these precious resources.

    Step It Up
Here are some simple changes you can make to use less plastic in your daily  life:
  • Invest in a stainless steel or another reusable water bottle to avoid
    purchasing bottled water.
  • Bring your own reusable canvas or cloth bags every time you shop. Plus,
    cloth is sturdier than plastic.
  •
  • Replace disposable plates and utensils with ones that are
    biodegradable.
  •
  • When you eat out, skip the plastic straw.

  •  Keep It Simple
Cut down on your use of plastic, and when you can’t avoid using plastic, make  sure you recycle it!

Blog:  Random Acts Of Kindness!  Pick up trash!  Beautify your surroundings! Be kind to the environment and those around you  by picking up trash when you see it lying  around. It doesn't matter who left it  there, just pick it up!

    Benefits:
Picking up trash helps keep your neighborhoods, schools, parks, beaches,  playgrounds, etc. clean and healthy. You will appreciate your surroundings more,  and everyone else will, too.

    Step It Up:
Organize a group of people to go out and keep a specific area clean. Help  with a beach clean up, or be a part of a relief team working to clean up after a  natural disaster. Once a month commit to going to a local park or picnic area  and picking up after others who may have left trash behind. You can also do this  on the side of a road, or even on your neighborhood streets. And don't stop at  just picking up garbage! Separate out the trash that can be recycled.

    Keep It Simple:
Always keep an extra bag to act as a trash bag where ever you go. You can  keep it in your car, backpack or purse. Use this bag not only for your own  trash, but also for other trash you might see lying around!
