Keep on Diving!03/26/2014 By Kristen Bannon Leave a Comment

So… who did you ask?  Are you now accountable to someone for reading the Bible daily?  Are you excited about doing it?  What book of the Bible are you starting with?

Here are some facts about the Bible you may not know:

There are 66 Books in the Bible.
Paul wrote more books than any other author.
The longest book in the Bible is Psalms. (150 chapters)
The shortest book in the Bible is 2 John. (1 chapter)
The longest chapter is Psalm 119. (it has 176 verses)

Last week I recommended books of the Bible you might want to start with in regards to your daily readings.  This week, I want to take a moment to expound upon that list and share short insights into other books you might like to choose from:  Revelations is about the end times.  Hebrews is about God’s grace.  Colossians talks about Jesus as the very image of God and Ephesians is about the high goals God has for the church.

Your homework for this week is to keep on diving into Scripture by reading at least one chapter in the Bible each day and continuing to be accountable for it.

Next week is about hearing God’s voice as you read His Words.

Godly RecommendationsFirst posted on mompro.com

How did you do with your Bible reading this week?  Were you able to do at least one chapter every day?  I hope you have found, like me: It’s really not that difficult to do!  I know I feel closer to the Lord when I’m daily in His Word.  Psalm 1:2 ”But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.”  The only way to know what God wants us to do is to study His Word (the Bible).

So, now we need to know what book of the Bible we should be reading.  I have several recommendations.  The first is in the New Testament.  It is the book of John.  John was one of Jesus’ disciples and what better way to learn about Jesus then from someone who walked with Him?  Anything in red is something that Jesus said.  John tells about Jesus’ life and explains things as he goes along.  Matthew, Mark and Luke also tell the story of Jesus.  My second recommendation is in the Old Testament.  It is the book of Ruth.  It is a great book for explaining Faith and Determination.  My third recommendation:  The book of Job, also found in the Old Testament.  This is a book that discusses Suffering and Faith in the Lord.  My fourth recommendation, in the Old Testament once again, is the book of Psalms.  It is a collection of poems and songs and is very uplifting.

If you are trying to finish the Bible in a year, there are many sites on line to help you with a reading schedule to accomplish your goal.  One site is: EWordToday, another one is:  BibleGateway.  Reading the whole Bible in a year is a wonderful goal!

Besides following a plan, it’s also a good idea to be accountable to someone.  Have a friend, family member or a Life Coach check on you daily to make sure you are reading God’s Word.

Your homework for this week:  Ask someone to keep you accountable in regard to your goal; specifically, to read the Bible daily.

Next week we will be talking more about various books of the Bible.

Dive into God’s Word03/12/2014 By Kristen Bannon

Did you have a good week?  Were you obedient to the Lord?  Did you trust and obey Him?

I had a better week!  I trusted the Lord to know what is best for me and I obeyed as He showed me the way I should go.  I wish I could say that I always do this, but I don’t.

I’m learning and working on my goals too!  We all have goals and we all need to work on making sure the Lord is involved in each aspect.

This week we are learning more about diving into God’s Word. ”We have to habitually study the Word to really have confidence in God and know we can hear Him.  The Bible is food for our spirit.  As we spend time reading and meditating on Scripture, we develop a strong spirit.  Then we can hear God speaking to our heart – where He dwells in us – and make decisions based upon what He’s leading us to do, not just what we may think, feel or want.” (Joyce Meyer)  We need to be in God’s Word every day!  We need to walk with God constantly.

For those of you that are new Christians and don’t know where to start, I would recommend Proverbs.  There are 31 chapters and most months have 31 days.  Start today with Proverbs 12 (because today is the 12th).  Read one chapter a day to learn more about the Lord and what HE requires of us.  Your homework for this week is to read at least one chapter a day in the Bible.

Next week:  The book of the Bible that speaks to me as an ongoing Christian.

Faith Leads to Obedience03/05/2014 By Kristen Bannon 1 Comment

Hebrews 11:6 ”And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

We MUST have faith in the Lord! If we have faith and earnestly seek God, He will reward us!  Doesn’t that sound great?

So, did you put your faith in God last week?  Did you remember that we are to believe that He knows what He is doing?  It’s so much easier to give our problems, goals, dreams and daily activities to the Lord and trust that He is taking care of all of it!

This week we are learning about obedience.  Richard Baxter said “Lord, whatever you want, wherever you want it and whenever you want it, that’s what I want.”  Isn’t that one of our goals?  To want whatever the Lord wants?  Don’t we want to be in His will; to have His goals, to have His objective for our lives?

John 14:15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command.”  Now, some of you are thinking… How do I obey when I don’t even know what He is asking me to do?  That’s where the Bible comes into play.  God gives us very specific commands, and the commands are more than just the 10 commandments.  You need to get into God’s Word and obey Him.

Your homework for this week is to obey the Lord!  You need to do whatever God has commanded you to do.

Next week:  Diving into God’s Word!
