Your Heart; Where God’s Word is Kept04/09/2014 By Kristen Bannon Leave a Comment
How was your week of diving into God’s Word? Did you find your birthday verse? I thought it was fun going through each book in the Bible, looking for my own unique verse!
This week we are learning about keeping God’s Word in our heart. Psalm 119:11 says “I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” We are told to not only read the Bible, but memorize it and keep it in our heart. There are several ways to do this. The first step is to a pick a verse that makes you happy or can encourage you in times of trouble. One of my verses to use in times of trouble/heartache/loneliness is John 10:10. It says “The thief comes to kill, steal and destroy, but I come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” This verse shows me that satan is in this world to destroy everything, but GOD is here to help me live abundantly. The second step, after you pick the verse, is to write it down. I write verses on sticky notes. I place the notes in my car, on my bathroom mirror, on my fridge and on my front door; that way, I can see the verse and be reminded that I want to memorize it.
Your homework for this week is to pick a verse that encourages you, write it down, placing it where you will see it often; consciously reminding yourself of your intent to memorize the verse so that it will be kept within your heart.
Next week: 2 additional steps you can take to memorize a verse.
